Dead Men Walking

Grace is one of the most beautiful words in the Christian faith, but it is also one of the most misunderstood. Some people think grace means sin is not a big deal anymore. Others think grace means God forgives us but then leaves us on our own to figure life out. Some treat grace like permission to keep living the same way, while others turn holiness into exhausting self-effort.

Romans 6–8 gives us something better.

Paul reminds us that grace does not just forgive our past. Grace changes our present. Grace does not just cover our guilt. Grace breaks our chains. In Christ, sin may still be present, but it is no longer our master. We still struggle, but we do not struggle alone. We fall, but we are not condemned. We fight, but we fight by the power of the Holy Spirit.
